2001 T1 Z06 For Sale

Looking for $21.5k with the following caveat: This car is not street-titled, and can not be sold for street use. It is a race car only.

Specs:

2001 Corvette Z06

GMPP Tranny cooler

Full GMPP T1 suspension (Sachs Shocks, springs, sways, control arms)

Excellent custom cage w/ Porsche Cup style door bars

Stock motor; rebuilt less than 3000 miles ago (timing chain broke at Thill)

Custom Straight Pipes from the cats back. Original cats are retained as per T1 rules.

Setup by James Gunn-Wilkinson, former SCCA National Champ in a Z06

Never crashed, not even a minor one. Had small fire in rear end a few years ago (caused by burst oil line from the tranny cooler), but all was fixed and has given no subsequent problems.

19k miles (vast majority as a street car)

Still covered under factory warranty

Clean Title

Comes with SCCA log books, all documentation, receipts.

Just finished once-every-two-years maintence; replaced all calipers with new, new hubs & wheel bearings front & rear, new clutch, some bad CV joints. Car is in race-ready condition, and just ran a new best time of 1:51.6 at Sears Point on old Kumhos!

Success:

Carried a Rookie driver to the SCCA Oregon Region T1 Championship

Won 2002 SV T5 Class (bought in November, only ran in last race)

Won 2003 SV T3 Class (ran season)

Won 2003 SV Corvette Challenge Series Production Class (ran season)

Won 2004 SV T2 Class (ran season)

Won 2005 SV Corvette Challenge Series Production Class (ran season)

2005 SV T5 Class 2nd place (didn't run enough events)

Ran 1:51's at Sears Point on very old tires. Definitely will run 1:50's with fresh rubber.

Spares:

1 set GS Wheels

1 set stock Z06 Wheels

1 set C4 Sawblade wheels (for rain tires)

1 set rain tires (Kumho Ecsta V700's on C4 wheels

1 set dry tires (Kumhos on GS wheels)

Reason for sale: My wife tells me I have too many cars. Thanks for looking, guys!

Car Condition and other Particulars - New Info:

Known issues:

1) ABS: Something is wrong with the ABS on this car. ABS will prevent lockup sometimes, but allow a wheel to lock up under braking other times. It is a mystery. I have been driving the car with the ABS fuse pulled to make it consistent.

2) Probably related to the ABS: The Speedometer is not working. This just happened, and I have not started looked at anything to determine the cause.

3) The motor pulls very well actually, but a leak-down test shows it is tired. The motor has approximately 3,000 miles (all track miles) since the top was rebuilt when the timing chain broke. The rebuild was done by a local Chevy dealer, and is completely stock.

The transmission is in good shape with no issues, but is the original tranny for the car.

General Condition:

Exterior

The car is in decent condition cosmetically. It has been tracked extensively, and the paint is unquestionably rough. It has never, to my knowledge, been repainted (aside from the rear fascia, which obviously was painted black). The rocker areas behind the front wheels are quite rough, as rocks and debris thrown from the front wheels sandblast the car on track.

I took the car to California Speedway in May, the first event for this car in about a year and a half (did I mention I never drive it?). It was on the same Nitto NT01s as when it last ran, meaning two year old tires, and the car ran very well with a a 1:55 for the Grand Am Competition Course layout. Results are posted here. That's the good news. The bad news is someone with a scooter ran into the passenger's side door, so there is now about a 6" scratch on the door where the numbers go. I will be adding new pictures to this page by 7-5-2008 to show the damage and more detail about the car.

Interior

The interior is in very good shape. The interior is complete, down to the AC and the door skins. Here are very high resolution current pictures of the interior of the car, taken 7-27-2008.

In summary, this car is a running T1 car. It's clearly not in perfect condition, and I think that's well reflected in the price. It needs work if you're looking for a "perfect" T1 car, but it can be tracked (and raced) as it stands. This car is located in Irvine, CA.
